Why Now is the Best Time of the Year to Refresh Your Marketing Deck

With overall fundraising activity slowing down, marketing campaigns being paused, and your corporate gifts hopefully arriving at LPs’ addresses in the next 2 weeks, it’s finally time to pay attention to what's your most heavily utilized marketing asset.

A marketing deck refresh should take anywhere between 5 days to 5 weeks, depending on whether it’s a redesign of a dated pitchbook or a complete structural change. Investing time and resources into this now means you’ll have a deck that’s refreshed just in time for 2023 fundraising campaigns and roadshows.

Some LPs will have already finalized their 2023 mandates by now, most of whom are bracing themselves for another year of high correlation and high volatility. Market forces have determined that your messaging should be refined as investor seek opportunities in the turmoil, as they struggle to rebalance and prepare their portfolios for rockier times ahead. Is your marketing deck communicating what’s relevant to what LPs need to see in 2023?

There could also be purely aesthetic reasons where the addition of new texts, charts/tables, call-out boxes over the year(s) have made your deck appear “less institutional, more retail”. Aesthetics do matter in the intricate balancing act of creating an “institutional feel” vs. something memorable.

What’s Mission Critical in a Marketing Deck Refresh?

  1. Brand Consistency from start to finish: your colors, fonts, and themes.

  2. Storytelling that walks prospective LPs through the entirety of the deck.

  3. A well-articulated value proposition that backs up your strategy.

  4. Messaging that your team is aligned with, such that everyone is able to articulate when facing off an investment committee: this is of utmost importance.
